Death Notice

Josephine Patricia OBrien, nee Collins

Published on 11/12/2014

Josephine Patricia OBrien, nee Collins
Josephine Patricia OBrien, nee Collins was born 24th September 1923. She grew up in Harolds Cross, Dublin - details of which she remembered remarkably well despite leaving in young adulthood in the mid-1940s. She moved to London where she worked as a nurses orderly, the social life via which she was introduced to her future husband, the late Kevin OBrien, who she married in September 1950 and with whom she had 6 children, of which only two lived until adulthood. Josie worked as a cleaner in the city, and somewhat famously travelled to work at three oclock in the morning (as usual) in the notorious storm of October 1987. For twenty-five years she also worked as a lollipop lady in Islington, where she lived first in Arundel Square and then on Stock Orchard Street off the Caledonian Road. She was a pillar of the Catholic Sacred Heart Parish church, attending mass every Sunday morning. Well-known by the community, she saw the children of the area grow up and have children of their own. Josie is survived by her daughter, Carmel Martin, son, Kevin OBrien, and 7 grand children. Those in the community wishing to pay their respects are invited to join Josies family and friends at a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Parish, 62 Eden Grove, London N7 8EN, at midday today.
