Islington Council reinforced its “idle engine” campaign with a giant snakes and ladders mat in Upper Street.
On Wednesday, transport leader Cllr Claudia Webbe cajoled passers-by to learn about pollution and idle vehicle engines with an air-quality themed version of the classic board game.
Two years ago, Islington was the first London borough to enforce an anti-idling policy, educating drivers about the effects of leaving engines switched on when a vehicle is stationary.
Cllr Webbe, who was joined by volunteers to spread the message, said: “The sheer number of diesel lorries, buses and other heavily-polluting vehicles using Islington’s streets means we must do all we can to minimise their impact.
“The more people we can educate about the impact that engine idling has on our health the better, and these action days are a great way to make you think – and act.”
“Idling Action” events will run every month in Islington. To volunteer of find out more information, visit idlingaction.london
