A Finsbury Park policeman and his Hackney boyfriend have both died following a tragic accident close to Euston station.

British Transport Police officer Gavin Brewer, 32, died along with Stuart Meads, 34, after the couple fell through construction hoardings in Camden and plunged 20ft to the floor below.

Mr Brewer, who was based in Finsbury Park Station and was an officer with BTP for nine years, had been out drinking in Camden with boyfriend Mr Meads on Saturday before the accident happened.

The couple are thought to have been making their way home and reports suggest they leaned on hoardings around a building site in Hampstead Road which suddenly gave way.

Mr Meads, of Alexandra Grove, Finsbury Park, and Mr Brewer fell into a hole – thought to be in the process of conversion into a basement flat – and suffered fatal injuries.

Emergency crews raced to the scene but the pair were pronounced dead on arrival.

Family and friends of the couple spoke of their sadness on social networks.

Michelle Crook, Mr Brewer’s sister, posted on her Facebook account: “There are no words to describe the tragic news of the loss of my brother, Gavin Brewer.

“May your soul be rested and may you continue to shine down upon us...just as you always shone. Love you and miss you with all my heart xxxxx.”

The family of Mr Meads, who worked at a recording studio in Kentish Town, also posted tributes to their lost loved one.

Lawrence Meads posted a photo of his brother Stuart and wrote: “Words cannot describe how devastated I am.”

A BTP spokesman said: “BTP officers and staff are continuing to support his family and friends through this very difficult time.”

Post mortem were due to take place today (Wednesday) and an inquest into the deaths is expected to open at St Pancras Coroner’s court later this week.

Officers from Metropolitan Police are investigating the deaths, which are currently being treated as unexplained, in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive.
