A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of 16-year-old Jamaly Samba Baibu.
The 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday (December 27). He was subsequently bailed to a date in late January pending further enquiries.
The arrest follows the stabbing of two 16-year-old boys in Seward Street on the evening of December 20.
Police were called shortly after 10.30pm and provided emergency first aid to the two boys while awaiting medics from London’s Air Ambulance.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, one of the boys, Jamaly Samba Baibu, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
The second boy was taken to an east London hospital where his injuries were assessed as non-life threatening.
The investigation is led by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
Police urged anyone with information is to call 101, with the reference 7708/20Dec. For those who wish to remain anonymous, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
