The development comes after another 16-year-old boy was arrested by police on suspicion of murder on December 27. He has since been bailed to return on a date in late January pending further enquiries.
The two arrests follow the stabbing of two 16-year-old boys in Seward Street, Islington, on the evening of December 20.
Police were called shortly after 10.30pm and provided emergency first aid to the two boys while awaiting medics from London’s Air Ambulance.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, one of the boys, Jamaly Samba Baibu, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
The second boy was taken to an east London hospital where his injuries were assessed as non-life threatening.
The investigation is led by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
Police urged anyone with information is to call 101, with the reference 7708/20Dec. For those who wish to remain anonymous, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
