A popular toy shop in Finsbury Park is to close its doors for the final time.
The Sylvanian Families store in Mountgrove Road will stop trading at the end of April this year.
The shop first opened in May 1992, but after thirty years the owners have decided to retire.
Shop manager Ben Miller-Poole said that although the decision to close had not been made lightly, “all good things come to an end”.
He added: “Bricks and mortar retail is something we really believe in, especially with something like toys – kids deserve to immerse themselves in a wonderful world like ours when shopping, rather than just swiping through endless pages on a tablet.
“We’re considered a local landmark – we were once even dubbed ‘The Sylvanian Embassy’.
“We’re proud to have been an independent shop in a neighbourhood that always supports its local businesses.”
The store has been popular with children and adults alike over the years, and one TikTok user went viral recently when they announced the shop’s closure in a video.
The video showed the array of Sylvanian Families toys available in the store, and was captioned: “Don’t miss your chance to visit the London Sylvanian Families shop before it closes.”

TikTok user @jeansthoughts said: “You still have some time left to visit, and if you can it is well worth it.
“For any Sylvanian Family fan…this place is a little bit of heaven – it’s like a museum as well as a shop.
“It really tapped into a little piece of my childhood, and I obviously had to pick up some new Sylvanians for myself, even though I’m 30 now.
“I’m really, really sad to hear that it’s going to be closing. Hopefully I’ll get a chance for one more visit.”
Ben said that the store had been “overwhelmed" by the messages of support from customers.
He added: “We’ve loved being here, and it’s humbling to know that it’s been appreciated by all those who have supported us and shopped with us.
“Everyone is sad to see us go, but as they say, all good things come to an end, and it isn’t a decision we have made lightly of course.”
