A man is in hospital after an assault in the early hours of this morning (March 5).
Police were called at 3.46am to reports of an assault in Essex Road close to the junction with Gaskin Street.
London Ambulance paramedics also attended the scene, where a 57-year-old man was found with a head injury.

A police spokesperson said that the man was taken to a central London hospital and that the Met is awaiting an update on his condition.
A crime scene remains in place in Essex Road.
Anyone who witnessed the incident should call 101, giving the reference 1100/05MAR. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
