Police say they are today carrying out searches for the body of a missing man, almost two years after he went missing and eight months after two people were charged with his murder.
Frank McKeever, was last seen walking along Highbury Park near the junction with Highbury Grange on August 28, 2021.
The Islington man was declared missing on September 9; his body has never been found.
The 63-year-old was last seen wearing a black bomber jacket, black top, dark trousers and black shoes.
Officers say they will be searching for the body in the East Midlands today (June 23). It is suspected Mr McKeever’s body may potentially be in Lutterworth Road, Leicestershire, or Welford Truck Stop, Northamptonshire.
Detective Inspector Laura Nelson said: “Though two people have been charged with Frank’s murder, our investigation is ongoing and efforts to establish what happened to him continue.
“Frank’s family are distraught and their grief is compounded by the fact that his body has not yet been found. Our specially trained officers are supporting them.
“My team have been poring over many hours of CCTV, forensic and ANPR work in what is a very complex investigation. Their diligence and hard work has led to us identifying the two sites in these areas that we believe could have great operational significance.”
Surie Suksiri, 31, of Earlsferry Way, Islington, and Juned Sheikh, 47, of Haywood Street, Camberwell, were charged last October.
The two denied his murder at the Old Bailey on January 18 this year.
They also pleaded not guilty to preventing the “lawful decent burial of a body” on or around September 3, 2021.
The defendants face a four-week trial from October 2.
