A major station in London has been evacuated after reports of a suspicious package on fire.
Police and London Fire Brigade crews were called to Blackfriars station at 1.45pm today (October 9).
The station was evacuated and cordoned off as the incident was dealt with.
The item was later assessed as non-suspicious.
There are currently severe delays on the Circle and District lines following the closure.
We have contacted London Fire Brigade for further information.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Blackfriars underground station at around 1.45pm today (9 October) to reports of a suspicious package on fire. London Fire Brigade attended along with officers.
“The station was evacuated and cordoned off as a precaution, the item was deemed to be non-suspicious and the station will shortly be re-opened.
“Enquiries are ongoing."
