A five-year-old girl died after she went missing from her home and was found in a canal.
Police said they received a report that the child was missing from her home in Wharf Road, Islington, at around 4.15pm last Saturday (February 17).
Officers carried out an immediate search of the area, and the girl was found in the canal around ten minutes later.
Wharf Road runs parallel to City Road basin and perpendicular to the Regent’s Canal.
The girl was rescued from the water and officers carried out CPR, before she was rushed to hospital by paramedics.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the girl died at around 7pm that evening.
They added: “Her family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
Police say that enquiries are ongoing, but that the circumstances “are not believed to be suspicious”.
