Jeremy Corbyn is attempting to knock on every door in his constituency as a poll shows him within touching distance of beating a Labour challenger.

A new YouGov MRP survey suggests the former party leader is in the running to secure a shock win in Islington North, in which he is now standing as an independent candidate.

The race in the North London constituency is so tight that it could be decided by a margin of less than five points.

Calling it a "toss up", the poll put Labour's candidate Praful Nargund on 41 per cent, with Corbyn on 36 per cent.

Corbyn took to Twitter (X) to rally support for his campaign.

The former Labour leader said: "This weekend, we’re aiming to make history by knocking on every door in Islington North.

"This is an enormous challenge.

"It’s also a chance to stand up for our democracy, our principles and our belief in a better world.

"Join us to prove that when we come together, we can win."

If Mr Corbyn did win, this would potentially be a blow for Sir Keir Starmer.

Some members of the Labour party in Islington North have accused the party's leaders of acting in an undemocratic manner by blocking them from selecting Corbyn as their candidate.

However, Starmer has denied these accusations.

Meanwhile, YouGov's survey predicts that the Tories are set to lose several London seats on July 4, leaving only six constituencies in their control: Bromley and Biggin Hill, Finchley and Golders Green, Hornchurch and Upminster, Orpington, Romford, and Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner.

The Conservative party is expected to fail to keep any foothold in inner London, losing the constituencies of Cities of London and Westminster, Chelsea and Fulham, and Kensington and Bayswater.

The Liberal Democrats, on the other hand, are set to gain three seats from the Tories: Wimbledon, Sutton and Cheam, as well as Carshalton and Wallington.

The Conservatives are looking at second place finishes in 32 London constituencies, with three others that are described as "toss-ups" – Croydon South, Harrow East, and Old Bexley and Sidcup, where Labour is slightly ahead.
