A Labour councillor has resigned just two months after he was first elected.
Ollie Steadman was voted in as a councillor for Islington’s Hillrise ward at a by-election held on May 2.
That vote was triggered after Cllr David Poyser stood down after a decade in the post.
But the council announced last week that Cllr Steadman had resigned after only two months in the post.
The authority said that it could not give any further information about the reasons behind his decision to step down.
It means another by-election will be held for the seat next month, on August 15.
Nominations to stand as a candidate in the vote close at the end of this week (July 19).
Another by-election in the borough was averted after Labour councillor Praful Nargund lost to Jeremy Corbyn in the Islington North constituency at the general election.
The Barnsbury councillor promised to continue with his role on the council if he was unable to unseat Corbyn, who ran against his former party as an independent.
Elsewhere in London, councillors who successfully won a general election seat have stepped down from their council jobs.
Prominent names include Georgia Gould, former leader of Camden Council, who resigned her position after being elected as MP for Queen’s Park and Maida Vale.
