A new low traffic zone could soon be introduced to help tackle traffic from a supermarket.

Islington Council has proposed creating the Annette Road Liveable Neighbourhood off Holloway Road in Holloway.

It says high volumes of through traffic on several roads in the area are a cause for concern.

Arthur Road has been earmarked for changes, due to the volumes of traffic from Morrisons car park.

One solution suggested by the council would be to install a one-way traffic filter at the Arthur Road and Hornsey Road junction.

Data also shows that 2,000 vehicles use Jackson Road daily, with most of this being non-local through traffic.

A traffic filter at the junction of Jackson Road and Hornsey Road, allowing local traffic access while preventing heavy through traffic, has now been suggested.

The council hopes this would make Jackson Road more desirable to cyclists and pedestrians travelling from Holloway Road to Hornsey Road and Harvist Estate.

There are also plans to tackle through traffic in Loraine Road, Shelburne Road and Caedmon Road.

This would be achieved through the introduction of one-way traffic filters at Shelburne Road and Caedmon Road where they meet Hornsey Road.

This would block routes from Holloway Road to Hornsey Road.

The proposals would not impact access for people living in the area, or for the Waitrose store, and offer exit routes towards Tollington Road.

Cycling infrastructure improvements are also planned through the introduction of a new crossing for cyclists across Tollington Road from Annette Road.

A new pedestrian crossing across Hornsey Road from Harvist Estate has also been proposed, and will be placed somewhere between Tollington Road and Jackson Road.

An initial round of public engagement on the project is due to end on August 18, with a full consultation expected to be announced later this year.
