A young man was brutally stabbed to death after carrying a baseball bat to a fight outside a Holloway café.
Ibrahim Elkadmiri was found guilty of the murder of 23-year-old Yahye Ahmed at Woolwich Crown Court yesterday (July 29).
The court heard that the confrontation between the two men began after Yahye spotted Elkadmiri outside a café in Axminster Road at around midday on August 30 last year.
Yahye, who was with some friends, armed himself with a baseball bat and followed the 31-year-old defendant.
Elkadmiri, who lived in Axminster Road, then produced a large knife from his waistband, which he used to stab Yahye five times.
Yahye's friends fled after they saw Elkadmiri holding the knife and baseball bat.
The 31-year-old also quickly ran from the area, and later threw the baseball bat into a wheelie bin.
Medics worked to save Yahye’s life, but he died at the scene shortly afterwards.
Elkadmiri then called his friend Ahmed Ahmed and arranged for him to pick him up.
Ahmed drove his BMW to collect Elkadmiri at Hermitage Road in Tottenham and the two drove away together.
The 34-year-old then left Elkadmiri at his friend’s house, and bought a grey tracksuit from a sports shop in Wood Green.
Elkadmiri was later seen on CCTV wearing the grey tracksuit when he disposed of a carrier bag containing the clothes he had been wearing at the time of the murder in a wheelie bin.
Ahmed, of Waldegrave Road, Wood Green, was found guilty of assisting an offender at the same hearing as Elkadmiri’s conviction.
Detective Sergeant Devan Taylor said: “Despite an extensive investigation, we may never know what the dispute was between the victim and Elkadmiri, but we do know that the confrontation was violent in the extreme and ended a young man’s life.”
He added: “Elkadmiri, with the support of Ahmed, did everything he could to get away with murder
“His efforts to cover his tracks were not enough. He was arrested on September 3, 2023.
“Ahmed Ahmed was arrested on September 4, and claimed that Elkadmiri was a good friend whom he had picked up, but that he was unaware of the stabbing.
“I am pleased that the jury were able to see through the accounts given by the defendants.
"This case clearly highlights the consequences of carrying weapons and using them in violent crime.
“There is nothing that can bring Yahye back to his family. I hope that the verdicts handed down bring them a measure of peace in knowing that justice has been done.”
Both defendants have been remanded in custody to appear for sentencing at the same court on September 25.
