Schools in Islington have been ranked as being among the best in the country.
Outdoor Toys, which sells children’s toys and play equipment, has analysed various data points to suggest which areas of England offer the best education.
Factoring in how many schools were rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, per pupil funding and educational outcomes, Islington ranked third in the country.
The two local authorities in England considered to offer better schooling than Islington were Lancashire and Durham.
In London, Tower Hamlets also ranked highly, taking the eighth highest spot nationwide.
Islington had the second highest average expenditure per pupil in the country, at £6,899.
It also benefits from minimal teaching vacancies per school (0.01) a low pupil-to-teacher ratio (18.8), and a high number of teaching assistants for every teacher (0.71).
Primary school pupils in the borough also have excellent outcomes, with 65% achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and maths for 11-year-olds.
More than a quarter of schools in the borough have also been rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
All of these factors were considered by Outdoor Toys to create a normalised score ranking each local authority out of 10, with Islington scoring 7.12.
