The Angelic in Liverpool Road reopens with new look

The Angelic, in Liverpool Road, first opened as George IV in 1824 in Liverpool Road, and has enjoyed its prominent position close to Angel Tube station ever since.

Over 100 years later, the pub was renamed after the film, The Angelic Conversation, which was directed by Derek Jarman, who lived opposite it during the 1960s.

Having been closed at the start of August for a refurbishment, the pub reopened today (September 3).

To celebrate, The Angelic's staff will be handing out antique keys on the streets of Islington, each of which will entitle the holder to a free drink at the pub.

As part of the renovations, the interior décor has been revamped alongside the heated outdoor area.

The Angelic will also offer a wide range of British food from its newly-expanded kitchen, serving goat’s cheese lasagne, and homemade chicken and leek pie, among other dishes.
