New traffic restrictions are set to come into force as part of a 'liveable neighbourhood' next year.
Islington Council has confirmed that it plans to press ahead with creating a ‘Mildmay Liveable Neighbourhood’, after a consultation last year.
Work on the scheme is set to take place over the next 18 months, with through traffic blocked for those without a Blue Badge exemption in King Henry’s Walk from next year.
A physical traffic barrier will prevent access to Queen Margaret's Grove and St Jude Street. In Boleyn Road, a one-way filter would block traffic travelling southbound.
As part of the scheme, new school streets will be implemented in Mildmay Road, Wolsey Road and Auriga Mews.
These will introduce timed traffic restrictions during school drop-off and pick-up times for Newington Green Primary School.
There are also plans to widen pavements and plant more trees in King Henry’s Walk.
Walking and cycling improvements in Newington Green and Mayville Estate, including expanding the public space in Ferntower Road, will be rolled out in the next few months.
Islington Council said most people who responded to their consultation supported the plans.
In total, 51% of people strongly agreed that the proposals would make it safer to walk and cycle in the area, with 23% strongly disagreeing.
