An Olympic medallist will hand out free fruit and veg at the opening of a brand-new Aldi store tomorrow.

Rowing gold medallist Morgan Bolding will open the shop, near Holloway Road station, on October 24 at 8am.

The Olympic rower will also be handing out free fresh fruit and vegetables to the first 30 customers in the queue.

The new store will be run by store manager Nadya Zhegova, along with a team of 28 colleagues.

Ms Zhegova said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store on Holloway Road. It’s set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Morgan Bolding join us will make it a morning to remember.”

Double world champion rower Bolding added: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB.”

Aldi is the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, and this opening marks 35 new stores in 2024 as part of a £550 million investment.

Aldi is calling on local charities and food banks to register with Neighbourly, so that charities can collect surplus food and products.

Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com.

Job applications and more information on all of Aldi’s store positions can be found at www.aldirecruitment.co.uk/roles/stores.

The new store will be located at Unit 1-3 Stapleton House, 271-275 Holloway Road, Islington, and will be open from 8am to 11pm from Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sundays.
