Borough Police have placed Clerkenwell on a 48 hour lockdown using a Dispersal Order.
Islington MPS tweeted on Wednesday: “Dispersal Order starts at 4pm today, running for 48 hours until 4pm on Friday 31 July, covering the Clerkenwell area.”
Under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, Islington Police are empowered to tell anyone who is believed to be causing disorder or intimidation on the Highbury Quadrant Estate, off Catherall Road, to leave the area for 48 hours.
Sergeant Brian Quail from Islington Police’s Clerkenwell Policing Team said, “The dispersal zone has been put in place to safeguard both the law-abiding members of our community and any young people who may be causing a nuisance or anti-social behaviour in the EC1 area. This is an option we will seek to use to ensure the area remains safe for all who live, work or commute through Clerkenwell.”
