Reception children at Highbury Quadrant Primary School have raised £2,500 online towards a revamp of their playground.

The four and five year old pupils have set up a crowd funding web page with help from their parents and even posted videos showing their designs.

One anonymous benefactor donated £1,000 and the children have also set up a healthy cafe to make some more money towards the project. Some of the more unrealistic ideas include a crocodile rodeo and a swimming pool but the children should be able to enjoy a climbing wall, a performance area and a sensory garden thanks to their fundraising efforts.

Tia Butler, whose five-year-old son Arlo has been part of the campaign, said: “The kids love it and the staff have really got behind the idea as well. They can see how tired the current playground is.

“People have been really generous, most of the donations have been around £20 or £25 pounds.

“The healthy cafe raised £300.”

Terry Stacy, chairman of governors at Highbury Quadrant Primary School, said “It’s great to see kids being so entrepreneurial to change their playground and make it more fun.”
